**Sheetal Devi and Sarita Kumari Paris Paralympics 2024 Latest Updates:** Just days after coming tantalisingly close to breaking the world record in the qualification round at Paris 2024, Indian para-archers Sheetal Devi and Sarita Kumari saw their journey in the individual women’s archery event come to an end on Saturday. Sheetal Devi was eliminated in the round of 16 by Chile’s Mariana Zuniga, while Sarita Kumari was ousted in the quarterfinals by Turkey’s Oznur Girdi Cure.

The 22-year-old Zuniga, who secured a silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics three years ago, proved to be a formidable opponent. Sarita, who had earlier defeated Italy’s Eleonora Sarti 141-135 in the round of 16, faced tough competition in the quarterfinals against Cure. In the qualification round, Sheetal Devi surpassed the existing world record but was narrowly outdone by Turkey’s Oznur Girdi Cure.

India is aiming for its sixth medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

Know More About Sheetal Devi and Sarita Kumari

**Sheetal Devi:** Hailing from Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir, Sheetal Devi has captured global attention with her exceptional talent. Born without arms due to a rare congenital disorder called Phocomelia, which results in under-developed limbs, Sheetal’s life took a dramatic turn in 2019 when she was discovered by the Indian Army at a military camp. Recognising her potential, the army provided her with educational support and medical care.

Ahead of the Paris Paralympics, Sheetal was considered one of India’s strongest contenders for a gold medal, especially after her outstanding performance at the Asian Para Games 2022, where she clinched gold in the individual and mixed team events, along with a silver in the women’s team event. She also secured an individual silver medal at last year’s World Archery Para Championship.
